Deacon King Kong by James McBride The book club will meet Monday, February 21st, in the
Craft Room to discuss Deacon King Kong. McBride’s novel tells the story of a church deacon named Sportcoat. Deacon King Kong is the second nickname locals gave Sportcoat due to his constant drinking of booze known as King Kong. Deacon King Kong randomly shoots a drug dealer, and no one knows why. Explore the aftermath of the shooting and the effect on both the people involved and others in this oft-neglected neighborhood in South Brooklyn. From the
gangsters to the church goers and cops sent to investigate the shooting sets off a dramatic
chain of events.
